Do you have dreams you want to chase? But are you stuck in the same spot? If so, you’re not alone.

Change can be scary. But often, it’s not the change that stops us. It’s the excuses we make.

Things like, “I’m too busy,” or “I’m not good enough,” or “What if I fail?” These excuses keep us from moving forward.

But now, it’s time to stop making excuses. It’s time to go after the life we want. We need to understand and drop these 8 common excuses.

Are you ready? Let’s go!

1. “I’m Not Good Enough.”

Let’s start with a big one, the mother of all excuses: “I’m not good enough.”

How often have you let this sentence sneak into your thoughts and convince you to give up before you even try?

You see, the problem here isn’t your abilities. It’s your confidence.

Firstly, know this: everyone starts somewhere. Every expert you admire, every role model you look up to, was once a beginner.

They didn’t know everything from the get-go. But they didn’t let their beginner status stop them from starting.

Secondly, don’t confuse not being good enough with not knowing enough. It’s okay not to know everything. No one does. It’s all about learning as you go. That’s how growth happens.

Lastly, remember that you are your own worst critic. What you see as a lack of worth, others might see as potential.

So, instead of saying, “I’m not good enough,” try thinking, “I’m not there yet, but I’m willing to learn.”

Kick this excuse to the curb, and you’ll see doors start to open. Remember, you’re more than good enough to start. You’re good enough to succeed.

2. “I Don’t Have Time.”

Time – it’s something we all wish we had more of. Back in my school days, I remember a teacher telling me, “We all have the same 24 hours in a day. It’s how you use them that counts.”

That nugget of wisdom has stuck with me ever since.

“I don’t have time” is an excuse that’s as old as time itself. But let’s be real, it’s often not about having time, but about making time.

If something truly matters to you, you’ll carve out the time for it, even if it means waking up a bit earlier or cutting back on less important activities.

I used to tell myself I didn’t have time to exercise. I was busy with work, chores, socializing – you name it.

But then, I realized I was spending an hour each day scrolling through social media. That’s when it hit me: I did have time; I was just not using it wisely.

So, take a good look at how you’re spending your time. Is there anything you could cut back on to make room for the things that truly matter? Remember, time is a precious resource. Make it count.

3. “What If I Fail?”

Let’s not beat around the bush here – failure is scary. It’s a gut punch, a blow to our ego. But you know what’s scarier?

Looking back on your life and realizing that you let the fear of failure keep you from pursuing your dreams.

Here’s the raw, honest truth: you will fail. Not might, but will. At some point, you’re going to take a leap, and you’re going to fall flat on your face.

I’ve been there, and let me tell you, it’s not fun. It hurts, it’s embarrassing, and for a moment, it might feel like the end of the world.

But it’s not. Failure is not the end, but a step in the journey. It’s a chance to learn, to grow, and to become stronger.

Without failure, there’s no improvement. Without falling, there’s no getting back up.

So, what if you fail? Well, you dust yourself off, learn from it, and try again. Failure is not a life sentence, but a stepping stone on the path to success.

It’s high time we stop fearing failure and start embracing it as a part of the process. After all, the only real failure is not trying at all.

4. “It’s Too Late for Me.”

This excuse often comes from a place of regret, a feeling that we’ve missed our opportunity and it’s too late to start now.

But let me tell you, it’s never too late to make a change. Age, past mistakes, missed opportunities – these are not roadblocks, they’re simply detours on your journey.

Think of it this way – life isn’t a race with a set path and a finish line. It’s more like an open road.

You’re free to change directions, make U-turns, or even pave your own way. There’s no timeline that you need to stick to. It’s your road, your journey.

It’s easy to look back on our past and think, “If only I had started earlier.” But dwelling on the past won’t help us move forward. What matters is what we do from this point onward.

So, if you’ve been telling yourself that it’s too late to change, it’s time to stop. Embrace the present moment, and remember, every day brings a new opportunity to start afresh. It’s not too late. In fact, the best time to start is right now.

5. “I Don’t Have the Resources.”

Now, this is an excuse I’ve heard and used many times myself. “I don’t have the money,” or “I don’t have the right equipment,” or “I don’t have the connections.”

It’s easy to look at what we lack and let it stop us from moving forward.

But here’s a little story. When I decided to start my own blog, I didn’t have a fancy laptop, a high-speed internet connection, or a cozy home office.

All I had was an old computer, a shaky internet connection, and a small table in the corner of my living room.

Did it make things harder? Absolutely. But did it stop me? No way. I started with what I had, and I made it work.

The truth is, resources help, but they’re not a prerequisite for success. You don’t need to have everything figured out from the start. You can start small, with whatever you have, and build from there.

So, next time you catch yourself saying, “I don’t have the resources,” try asking yourself instead, “What can I do with the resources I have?” You might be surprised at what you can achieve with just a little creativity and determination.

6. “I’m not ready yet.”

There is a phrase that says “the best time to start was yesterday; the second best time is now.”

This rings especially true when it comes to making changes in your life.

The truth is, there will never be a ‘perfect’ time. You’ll always have reasons to wait – maybe you’re waiting for the kids to grow up, or for the job situation to stabilize, or for the weather to be just right.

But while you’re waiting, life is passing you by.

Here’s an interesting fact: Your perception of obstacles makes a difference. Some people see obstacles as a puzzle to solve.

Some see them as an opportunity to grow. Others see them as threats or as meaning they cannot succeed.

Your view of barriers to achieving your goals affects how you react.

If you see obstacles as the world being against you or as meaning you failed, then you are likely to be overwhelmed with painful thoughts and difficult emotions when faced with blocks to your goals.

This can lead you to stop working on your goals. You lose your passion and perhaps you become resigned and no longer think about your goals or what’s important to you. Your reactions to obstacles stopped you from trying.

So, the next time you catch yourself saying “I’m not ready yet,” remember this: There will never be a perfect time to start, and the obstacles you face are often opportunities in disguise.

Embrace the journey, and remember, change begins the moment you decide to stop making excuses.

7. “I’m Too Comfortable Where I Am.”

This is one of the most honest, yet most dangerous excuses we can make. Comfort is nice – it’s safe, it’s familiar, and it’s easy.

But comfort doesn’t bring growth. It doesn’t bring change. It keeps us stagnant, stuck in the same place, doing the same things.

Here’s the raw truth: life begins at the end of your comfort zone. The real magic happens when you dare to step outside of what’s comfortable, when you take risks, when you push your boundaries.

Yes, it’s scary. Yes, it’s uncertain. And yes, you might want to crawl back into your comfort zone at times.

But think about it – do you really want to look back on your life and realize that you chose comfort over growth? That you chose safety over adventure? That you chose familiarity over the thrill of the unknown?

So, if you’ve been telling yourself that you’re too comfortable to change, it’s time to challenge that. It’s time to push your boundaries, to take risks, and to embrace the uncertainty.

After all, life is too short to remain stuck in the comfort zone. It’s time to step out and embrace the adventure that awaits.

8. “I’ll Do It Tomorrow.”

Ah, procrastination – the thief of time. “I’ll do it tomorrow” is an excuse we’re all too familiar with. It’s something I’ve told myself more times than I can count.

A few years ago, I decided to learn a new language. I was excited and ready to dive in. But every day, I found myself saying, “I’ll start tomorrow.”

Days turned into weeks, weeks into months, and before I knew it, a year had passed. I hadn’t learned a single new word.

That’s when I realized the danger of “tomorrow.” It’s a seductive word that gives us a false sense of security.

It makes us feel like we have unlimited time. But the truth is, tomorrow is not guaranteed. All we have is today.

So, if you’ve been putting off making a change because you think you can always start tomorrow, I urge you to reconsider. Start today. Start now.

Because the longer you wait to start, the longer it’ll take you to reach your goals.

Don’t let “tomorrow” rob you of your potential. Embrace the power of “today,” and you’ll find yourself one step closer to the life you desire.
