In this article, I’ll be going through 11 signs that you have a unique personality that stands out in a crowd. Let’s get to it!
1) You’re not afraid to be your true self
Being yourself in today’s society is hard.
You see, society has certain expectations of how we should act, dress, weigh and so forth, so it puts pressure on us to be a certain way.
For instance, you might be seen as weird if you’re into certain things, judged for dressing differently or expressing opinions that others don’t agree with.
It’s not surprising when people bottle up their feelings and just do what’s expected of them.
But you aren’t afraid to be yourself, even if some people might not like you because of it.
You’re not afraid to show off your eclectic tastes in music, interests and kick-ass sense of style. Nor are you ashamed of voicing your unpopular opinions, such as not being into a popular movie franchise everyone else is obsessing over.
You are who you are, and you stand by that! Not everyone can say the same.
2) You don’t seek validation from others
You know why you’re not afraid of being yourself?
It’s because you don’t seek validation from other people.
People who seek approval from others or want to be liked might act in a way that’s not like them, pretend they like something they don’t, or do things for attention.
I’ll give you an example. Let’s say a person has friends who love clubbing and getting drunk. This person might pretend to like drinking and partying to fit in with their friends when in reality, they don’t enjoy it.
They would much rather socialise with their friends over a meal or fun activity. But they won’t tell their friends because they want to fit in and be liked. They’re scared that their friends might think less of them if they tell them the truth.
You don’t need validation from others because you already validate yourself. If people like you, great. If they don’t, then that’s their problem!
3) You don’t care about being popular
You don’t care about being liked by everyone. And you most certainly don’t care about being popular if that means you can’t be yourself.
Some people might people-please and bottle up their thoughts and concerns because they’re afraid to cause conflict and be disliked.
But popularity doesn’t bother you. If you are popular, it will be because people like you for who you are, not who you pretend to be.
4) Neither do you care about gossip
You know those people who get a kick out of gossiping about other people all the time? Who so and so is dating, what they said and did, how they dress, what they had for breakfast in the morning!
It’s like they work for the paparazzi, with the way some people are always in other people’s business.
Gossip thrives in negativity, and you’re not about that.
First of all, you’d much rather talk to that person directly than gossip behind their back.
Secondly, you’re much more focused on working on yourself, relationships, ambitions and living your best life.
5) You are open minded and take the time to understand others
People who gossip about others can be critical and judgmental, so it’s hard to be into gossip when you’re open-minded.
You understand that we all have different backgrounds, cultures and experiences that have led to who and where we are. Because of this, you’re not quick to judge others’ actions and choices as some people can be.
Instead, you try to understand where others are coming from and learn from them.
Even if you disagree with someone’s opinion, you’re still willing to try and see things from their point of view.
If you like to get both sides of the story and come to your own conclusions about someone or something, bravo! You don’t follow the crowd, which makes you stand out even more.
6) You listen and learn from other people
Being open-minded means you’ll learn a lot from others’ perspectives that differ from yours.
But you actually enjoy listening and learning from other people. You find people’s stories fascinating and are genuinely interested in what others have to say.
Whether you want some career advice, to learn a new language or are looking to improve your self-care, you are keen to learn from others and their personal experiences.
The ability to really listen to what people are saying is also an underrated trait, so if you are a great listener, then consider yourself unique.
7) You go out of your way to help others
Not only do you take the time to listen to and understand others, you want to help others in need and make a positive difference as well.
Some of the most unique personalities I know started charities to give young and vulnerable people more opportunities to develop the skills and confidence to land their dream job.
These people fought hard to set up these charities after seeing a lack of facilities and opportunities for young people in the area.
Because of their work and efforts, these people stand out in their town.
A unique personality like yourself likes to help others. You don’t have an ulterior motive when you help people and you don’t expect anything in return. You do it because it makes you feel good.
8) You’re not afraid to go out of your comfort zone
You know that quote, ‘Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.’?
Unique personalities aren’t afraid to step out of their comfort zones, even if it means facing their fears head-on.
While fear stops many in their tracks, you don’t let it stop you from trying and experiencing new things.
If there’s something you want to do, you’ll find a way to do it. It could be travelling solo, living abroad for a year, bungee jumping or switching to a whole other career. You’ll do it because you know your life will be better for it.
How can you not stand out in a crowd when you’re doing things other people can only dream of doing?
9) You’re not afraid of rejection. You welcome it
When you step out of your comfort zone, you’re bound to face some rejection somewhere along the line.
For example, let’s say you wanted to switch careers, so you reach out to companies you want to work for and send out your CV.
Some companies will reject you. They’ll tell you you’re not qualified, they’re not looking for anyone right now, or you won’t receive a response at all. You may face many rejections before you land the job of your dreams.
Rejection is a stinger. It hurts like hell.
Getting rejected can frighten many people into not taking action, but you understand that rejection is a part of life. You don’t let that stop you from going after what you want.
Instead, you use rejection to motivate you, try new approaches and keep going until you succeed.
If you can take rejection on the chin and keep it pushing, people will notice you.
10) You are reflective and realise when you’ve done wrong
It’s not easy to own up to your mistakes. It’s much easier to pass on the blame than admit to wrongdoing, but you’re different.
When you’ve done wrong, you’re not ashamed to admit it.
You also take the time to reflect on your thoughts, feelings and actions. What you could have done differently, and what you can do to avoid the same outcome next time.
You want to do better and be a better person, so reflecting helps you to stop making the same mistakes and be the best person you can be.
It takes one unique individual to be able to do this!
11) You don’t need materialistic things to be happy
You don’t rely on materialistic things to make you happy.
It’s nice to treat yourself now and again. Who wouldn’t love a luxurious weekend away at a spa, being pampered and treated like royalty? Or a sparkly dress to wear to that birthday party you’ve been invited to?
But you don’t need these things to be happy or have a good time.
You appreciate the simple things, like having a laugh with your friends and family. Going for long walks along the shore. Reading a good book after a long day at work. Snuggling with your dog as you sprawl out on the couch.
You’re grateful and happy for the things you have, and that’s more than enough.
Conclusion
